The Art of Leslie Nguyen Temple
Leslie Nguyen Temple of Franco-Vietnamese origins was raised in London and comes from a family of many artistic influences. She pursued a self taught approach to art and after having graduated in the early nineties in Psychology and trained in Art Therapy she worked within the field of Mental Health in UK and Asia.
In the next decade, Leslie discovered her passion for Tibetan Art, which she saw as having many parallels to art as therapy.
Her interest in both the healing potential of images and meditation practice lead her to study Tibetan Thangka Art with fellow artist and husband -first westerner trained in this artform- Terris Temple.
Leslie and Terris’s collaboration in Tibet (1992-2008) in re-creating lost heritage large scale Buddhist images with a team of skilled Tibetans was an unprecedented event in the history of Tibetan Art. These works were created, and presently still being created for the renown Tsurphu monastery in Tibet seat of the 800 year old Karma Kagyu lineage .
From these formative experiences, Leslie has since developed techniques and visions in Appliqué Art to not only pursue her expertise in creating traditional Tibetan deities but also to stretch the boundaries of style and materials in expressing themes ranging from environmental, portraits and contemporary designs inspired by the infinite aesthetics which surround her.
The technique she uses is based on a style found in Eastern Tibet which combines the use of silks and brocades with painting creating fine art images with a 3D quality.
Leslie has been represented by various galleries in Maui, Hawaii and presently is based in Asia. She continues to work with Terris on ongoing projects in Tibet and pursues her art essentially through commission work.
