Tsurphu Sagadawa Video

Sagadawa, the festival celebrating Buddhas's  birth and enlightenment.

In Tsurphu the Indian teacher, Guru Rinpoche who established Buddhism in Tibet in the 7th century, is also celebrated. The Guru Rinpoche cham or lama dances shown here are like bringing thangkas to life. Thangka also called thongdrol or "libetation by sight" is the visual vehicle of Buddhism. The cham is enacted the day before the showing of the Karma Gadri Thangka, Tsurphuu's giant silk applique thangka thongdrol, as part of the Sagadawa Festival.
