Thongdrol Documentery Proposal

This film project is about Tibetan art, and the ongoing projects for Tsurphu Monastery, Tibet, home of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, and all the Gyalwa Karmapas since 1187. The film as a central focus uses the making of the Karma Gadri Thangka, and will explain the painting tradition of His Holiness's lineage the Karma Gadri style. Buddhist iconography, the sacred geometry of Tibet, plays an important part of Tibetan art and the making of applique thangkas. His Holiness the 17th Karmapa will explain the importance of his lineage's style of Thangka painting. The White Conch Factory will show the applique techniques of Tibet in the making of the Giant Thongdrol . Terris and Leslie Nguyen Temples, the artists's comments and archival footage of the making of the giant silk Thongdrols in Tibet.
