Bird and Flower Gallery
Terris Nguyen Temple's silk painting uses as a medium mineral pigments,
and in some pieces blends this with silk applique a technique from the Amdo area of Eastern Tibet.
His art of bird and flower painting began with learning Tibetan art especially thangka painting in the mid 60s in Nepal. 1976 in Maui Hawaii with a visit from the Tsurphu Karmapa of Tibet, a reknown bird lover suggested this idea to him, as Buddhist art was not traditionally for sale in Tibet.
These examples are of environmental art of Hawaii's and Southeast Asia's endangered species, using silk, and.mineral colors seemed a perfectly compatible form, and it as well an ancient art as is Buddhist thangka painting.
Below is a Gallery of some of these paintings, as well as a downloadable brochure:
Many of the works shown here are in Private collections, a few are avaiable and in the "Available Works" gallery. Over the years I did a lot of painting and web sites were unknown, many of my paintings I took no photos of. All the paintings are made with mineral pigments on silk.
