Having had the honor of working for five years for His Holiness the Karmapa and Tsurphu Monastery, in Tibet with Leslie Nguyen Temple, on the two giant *appliqué thangkas have greatly validated my life as an artist since 1966. The first is for two ceremonial banners called dra wa dap che to complete Tsurphu Monastery's giant applique treasures, fully approved by His Holiness the Karmapa and Tsurphu Gompa "My Buddhist painting deals with a state of mind without dualities. Whereas my bird and flower painting originate where the song of nature and the harmonics of its colors are interconnected. I am not striving for realism but for that state where magic makes the inner self smile. Both these disciplines give a center to my vision and the space to create pieces of work that can bring joy and peace to the viewer, as well as to myself. Visiting Nepal in1966, I met the State Artist of Tibet as he and his family fled leaving Tibet during the cultural revolution. He opened the doors to Tibets sacred art for me. His humble dedication to traditional artistic values inspired me to beginning iconographic drawings which I did for several years before learning about color. During the next 10 years in Nepal I studied with various thangka masters.
